Energy is not accessible to the average Namibian and winter is one of those seasons we realise that a geyser is not a luxury product.
The upfront costs of panels, batteries, and inverters remain far beyond the reach of most households, especially in rural areas. Telling citizens to take on this burden during load shedding feels like shifting responsibility away from the institutions meant to deliver power.
Instead of placing this weight on struggling citizens, I urge the Ministry to:
- Subsidize basic residential solar kits
- Expand community-based mini-grids
- Support green job creation for youth
- Regulate pricing and standards in the solar market
Clean energy is the future — but equity must be at the center of that transition. Let’s build an inclusive energy system that truly works for everyone.
