Omusati Murder Cases On The Rise

Omusati regional governor Erginus Endjala says the crime rate in the region is fluctuating, with assault, fraud and break-in cases on the alarming increase.

Endjala said this on Wednesday during his state of region address.

According to him, stock theft and rape cases are the most prevailing crimes in the region.

“A recurrent of stock theft, mostly goats, donkey, cattle and rape cases have been observed,” he said

He said that the region had recorded an increase of 36 murder cases during the 2021/22 financial year.

“Where 39 cases were committed, as opposed to the 25 cases of murder registered,” he said.

On health, Endjala said 23 suspected cases of measles had been investigated since April, of which 14 were recorded at Outapi district, eight at Otsandi district, one at Okahao district and four recorded at Jerry Ekandjo school near the Namibia-Angolan border.

He added that N$6 million was used on Covid-19 isolation units constructed at Okalongo district hospital.

“N$19.3 million was allocated to construct Oshikulufitu village’s new clinic and staff accommodation.”

He said that, as far as infrastructure development is concerned, 450 thousand Namibia dollars was spent on the constituency-identified project for purchasing materials for short water pipelines in various constituencies.

He also said that one million was spent to reload sewer lines from Onesi Secondary school pump station to Onesi settlement pump station and construct a sewer reticulation at erf 116.

“Three oxidation ponds were constructed to the tune of 4.2, but the people of Onesi said there is no development. I guess they expected a lot,” he said.

Endjala stated that the council has embarked upon providing some services to ensure that Onesi has progressed from a poorly settlement to a village council soon.

According to him, N$214 257 was spent repairing broken manholes in low-lying areas in the Okalongo settlement.

“In addition, N$568 000 was spent on construction of sewer reticulation infrastructure in extension one and N$927 988 was spent to fence off the additional evaporation ponds,” he said

He added that the Tsandi village council spent N$2.8 million on land surveying of extensions 10.11, maintenance of gravel road, ext 1, design and documentation of oxidation treatment plant face one, and construction of Tsandi open market phase two.

On education, he mentioned that N$12.7 million was spent on textbooks, stationeries and subsidies to state aid private and community hostels.

“I look forward to making Nakayale Vocational Training the centre of excellence in the Omusati region. The completion of the said project will enable Nakayale Vocational Training Centre to expand its vocational training programs and offer additional national qualifications,” Endjala said.
