Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Inge Zaamwani, has noted that Namibia’s strides and various accolades in marine resources must also translate into meaningful value for its populace.
This includes results such as decent employment, value-added products and benefits for various communities residing near the harvesting areas.
Zaamwani spoke at the 2026 Lüderitz Crayfish Festival Fundraising Gala Dinner held last week.
She said Namibia is internationally recognised as a leader in responsible marine resource management. However, Zaamwani noted that the true measure of success lies in how much of the value of the blue economy is translated into meaningful employment opportunities and value-added products.
In line with Goal 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Namibia’s approach to the development of its blue economy is about conservation and sustainable use of the oceans and marine resources, the Minister noted.
“We believe that healthy oceans and seas are essential to human existence and life on Earth,” remarked Zaamwani.
She added that the country’s fisheries and marine resource management strategies remain at the core, representing “a promise that what we inherit, we will preserve, strengthen, and pass on to the next generation.”
