AG to Train 10 Legal Professionals Annually in Sector-Specific Skills

During his keynote address at the launch of the Strategic Plan (2025-2030), Attorney-General Festus Katuna Mbandeka, indicated that his office will be training 10 legal professionals every year in sector-specific skills to retain skills.

Mbandeka added that the office faces unprecedented pressures and demands, with a rise in requests for legal advice and legal suits against state institutions.

“The rise in crime also demands that resources be allocated to ensure broader prosecution of crime by the Prosecutor-General across the country. Our workforce – our most valuable asset – is stretched thin, working tirelessly to deliver justice and much-needed legal services in an increasingly complex legal landscape,” he said.

As a response, the strategy involves a pillar that will cater to human capital, training an average of 10 legal professionals annually in sector-specific skills. Moreover, the office will develop and implement a comprehensive staff retention strategy.

Mbandeka noted that operational excellence also means delivering legal services with speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

“At the centre of delivering such a mandate is the human capital, the professional and administrative staff who work tirelessly to serve our clients,” he added.

Owing to the high turnover of experienced staff members over the years, the Attorney-General’s Office will implement a comprehensive legal staff retention strategy.

“We will continue to monitor staff retention rates, particularly for our specialised staff in niche areas of law, because losing experienced legal professionals is a loss we cannot afford,” Mbandeka stated.
