Uranium Continues to Lead Namibia’s Export Portfolio in January 2026

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), in its monthly report on trade statistics for January 2026, indicates that Namibia’s export portfolio remains predominantly mineral-based. Uranium, gold, diamonds, and ores and concentrates of base metals continue to serve as the main drivers of the country’s external trade performance.

In January 2026, the top five export commodities were uranium (26.3%), gold (15.8%), fish (13%), diamonds (8%) and ores and concentrates of base metals (7%).

Although mineral commodities continue to dominate the export basket, the report indicates that fish products remain the only non-mining export among the top five.

Furthermore, the data underscores the persistent dominance of mineral commodities within Namibia’s export structure.

Specifically, uranium and gold alone account for nearly 50 percent of total exports, highlighting the mining sector’s vital role in generating foreign exchange earnings and supporting Namibia’s broader economic performance.
