Namibia is facing a growing demand for qualified social workers, particularly in rural communities where access to social services remains limited. The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare has reported challenges relating to shortages of social workers, with vacant positions affecting the delivery of essential social services in communities across the country. Welwitchia University is calling on prospective students who want to make a difference in society while developing a professional career to consider the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours). To enrol for the programme, applicants must satisfy the university’s admission requirements. An applicant may qualify by obtaining a minimum of 30 points in six subjects according to the Welwitchia University evaluation scale. This must include a minimum of two subjects at Advanced Subsidiary level and four subjects at Ordinary level, with at least a D symbol in English at NSSCO/AS. Alternatively, applicants may qualify with a minimum of 25 points in five subjects at Higher/IGCSE/NSSCO/H level, with a minimum of a D symbol in English. The university also provides an opportunity through Mature Age Entry/Recognition of Prior Learning. Applicants may qualify with a minimum of 20 points, together with two or more years of relevant work experience, supported by a letter from an employer in a related sector.
This pathway provides an opportunity for individuals who may already have relevant professional experience and are seeking to advance their education and career through a recognised university qualification.
