Chinese donate food to Ondangwa council

The Ondangwa Chinese Community donated food parcels to Ondangwa Town Council to assist the less privileged elderly people. The food will benefit 150 households.

The donation was handed over by the chairman of the Association of the Chinese Merchants in Namibia Jiang Bo on behalf of the association and the Chinese business Community in Ondangwa.

Bo, during the handover of the food parcels, said the donation is another example of the profound friendship between Chinese communities in Ondangwa and an indication of solidarity in fighting the pandemic.

“This is a true expression of our heartfelt gratitude to the local government and people from all walks of life for all your consistent assistance and support,” Bo said.

He added that as known by all, the normal life and all business activities are now being greatly affected by this unprecedented pandemic.

“However, instead of shrinking back and evading, we have been always standing with our Namibian brothers and sisters, hand in hand, heart to heart,” he said.

Bo, who said that Namibia is their second home, cited their traditional saying “different land, same concern”.

To help all the elderly, all the Chinese from Ondangwa voluntarily contributed to these donations, the contribution consists of 150 Love Packages which contains cooking oil, sugar, maize flour and pasta.

Oshana Region governor Elia Irimari during the event said it is the second time in a short period of time that he witnessed the councillors as well as the management team of Ondangwa Town Council receiving donations.

Early last month Ondangwa town to receive food donations from yet another business based in Ondangwa, who gave food to 200 households in support of their families due to loss of income, effects of Covid-19.

“The world is experiencing the effects of climate change on an unprecedented scale, ranging from floods, forest fires, high temperatures and drought to diseases and pest outbreaks and Namibia is not spared by this reality,” said Irimari.

He added that the food insecurity has cast a dark shadow across the country for many years now.

Oshana governor further said this shows how much love and care for our old age people. These are the same people whom through their government grant support their businesses, and it’s really important that they invest back in the community they operate within.
