Education remains one of the most transformative tools available to young people seeking to shape their futures. Among the many inspiring stories emerging from the International University of Management (IUM), the journey of Piyaa Frieda Johannes stands out as a powerful example of dedication, resilience, and purpose-driven ambition. Today, she serves as a full-time Pre-Primary teacher at Absolutely Superb English Pre-School, embodying both professional excellence and the true spirit of an IUM graduate.
Johannes’ academic and professional paths reflect her deep appreciation for quality education, and her pride in being molded by one of Namibia’s most reputable private institutions. In this conversation, she shares her motivations for choosing IUM, her experience with the university’s academic environment, and her message to prospective students eager to join the IUM family.
When asked what influenced her decision to study at IUM, Johannes’ response is filled with clarity and confidence. For her, the choice was both practical and visionary. “Firstly, as we all know, IUM is a university dedicated to its people’s future, and I can confirm that,” she says with a smile.
Accreditation also played an important role for her. “I opted for IUM because it is accredited by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).” Affordability was another key factor. As a young student aiming to build a career in education, she appreciated an institution that offered quality programmes without placing overwhelming financial strain on students and their families. Moreover, the structure of IUM’s courses resonated deeply with her long-term ambitions.
“IUM’s courses are designed to align with labour-market needs. In my case, I studied Education, and Ms. Eliakim, our director, can confirm that I have truly applied all the tools and knowledge I gained from IUM to contribute to the school,” she explains. Her journey demonstrates IUM’s commitment to producing graduates who are not just academically prepared, but also practically equipped to serve their communities. One of the reasons IUM has continued to grow in reputation is its focus on developing programmes that meet national and international standards. Johannes speaks highly of the quality of education she received. “IUM is expanding its postgraduate offerings, including PhDs in several fields. This already shows that their education and courses are of quality,” she says.
Indeed, the introduction of advanced postgraduate programmes underscores IUM’s continuous effort to improve academic excellence. The university’s Honours degrees, rated at NQF Level 8, reflect the highest level attainable at the undergraduate stage, offering students robust and well-structured academic training. When speaking about the lecturers, Johannes expresses deep appreciation. “Lecturer delivery is very professional, and the lecturers are well-qualified,” she notes. Her success, she believes, is partly rooted in the strong academic support she received throughout her studies.
Johannes offers thoughtful advice to anyone considering IUM as their academic home: “Think about why you want to study there. Is it to gain a degree, to build a business, to gain employable skills, or all of the above?” she queries. IUM’s strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and practical skills means that students must be ready to work hard, stay focused, and remain committed to completing their studies. She emphasises determination as a key ingredient for success.
Today, Piyaa Frieda Johannes is thriving in her career. She proudly serves as a full-time Pre-Primary teacher, shaping the minds and personalities of young learners at a critical stage of their development. Yet, her academic qualifications extend beyond early childhood education. “I obtained an Honours Degree in Secondary Education,” she mentions. Additionally, she has earned one year of experience in Jolly Phonics, a globally recognised approach to teaching literacy.
With skills spanning multiple learning stages, she describes herself as “a jack of all trades,” and rightfully so. Her versatility and passion demonstrate the transformative power of education and the strong foundation that IUM provides. Piyaa Frieda Johannes’ story is one of commitment, purpose, and lifelong learning. As a proud IUM alumna and dedicated teacher, she represents the growing wave of young professionals contributing meaningfully to Namibia’s education sector.
Her journey reminds us that with the right institution, the right mindset, and unwavering determination, success becomes not just possible, but inevitable.
