Kahungu, activist condemn police heavy-handedness

City of Windhoek mayor Fransina Kahungu and Affirmative Repositioning activist Eliphas Nghitomoka have condemned the police heavy-handedness in handling a dismantling of a shack.
A defenceless woman had to be rushed to the hospital due to stress-induced by anxiety when the police descended on her shack in Windhoek’s Goreangab Informal settlement
Both Nghitomoka and Kahungu slammed the police handling of the situation, saying that the police only targeted her shack and left others around it.
Kahungu said she had to call the police off and abandoned the mission.
She said she has since visited the woman in the hospital and is reportedly recovered adding she called off the police mission.
Nghitomoka told Eagle FM that “What happened yesterday is one of the most shocking incidents. And while we have of course many such incidents happening, for yesterday it was worse. It ended up with a woman, the owner of the shack, being hospitalized because of shock and trauma.”
Nghitomoka questioned why the police had to call in a strong force of reinforcement.
“It is very shocking that when you are reporting of a crime of rape or robbery, you rarely see the police but when it has to do with a place that somebody calls home, the police will come in full force.
“We are talking about 11 cars including two mini-buses, all of them fully packed with police officers and NDF officers because of somebody saying all I need is a place to call home,” he said.
