Timoteus Mufeti, the Environmental Commissioner in the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) technical team that held public engagements in the Omaheke region, will only be able to provide a detailed technical report in Mid-March.
“The IAEA will submit a technical report, which will undergo further inter-ministerial reviews before the government determines the way forward. No final decision has been taken at this stage,” the statement from Mufeti indicated.
Headsprings Investments, a subsidiary of Uranium One under the Rosatom Group, as per the Environmental Commissioner, has six to seven mining exploration licences in the Omaheke region. They began the process in 2012.
