In April 2026, 64,044 head of sheep were marketed, and 56,612 of these were exported live mostly to South Africa.
The marketing for April 2026, however, showed a decline from the 91,000 head marketed in March 2026, according to the Monthly Mutton Market Watch.
This was largely driven by reduced activity across all major marketing channels.
In April 2026, South Africa remained the dominant destination for Namibia’s live sheep exports, accounting for 99.74% of total exports, 0.20% for Angola and about 0.06% to Kenya, reflecting minimal diversification to alternative markets.
Despite the reduced market supply, Namibian A2 sheep carcass prices declined marginally, suggesting weaker buyer demand and reduced competition across key channels during the review period.
