//Kharas MSMEs Convene to Discuss Pressing Challenges

By: Mathias Hangala

More than 30 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the //Kharas Region gathered in Keetmanshoop to discuss key challenges affecting small businesses in the area.

The consultation session, which is part of a nationwide initiative, was hosted in collaboration with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).

The engagement forms part of an effort aimed at centralising MSMEs’ support and improving access to information for business owners.

Held on Tuesday, the session contributes to the establishment of a national MSME information hub, a one-stop platform designed to streamline access to critical business resources and services. Speaking at the occasion, NIPDB Business Advisory Services Consultant, Minna Shakela, explained the vision behind the new hub.

“We are creating a website for the MSME information hub, which will serve as a one-stop platform where entrepreneurs can log in and find everything they need, rather than navigating multiple websites or seeking information from several sources. This is not just an NIPDB or KAS project; it is a national initiative. We want to collaborate with all stakeholders and consolidate all essential information in one place,” she said.

During the discussions, several entrepreneurs highlighted the challenges they face daily.

One participant pointed out the lack of local service providers, particularly the absence of a Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) office in the //Kharas Region. This, they said, makes it difficult for entrepreneurs to access essential business services.

Others emphasised the urgent need for industrial land, noting that the shortage of properly designated business spaces hinders smooth operations and growth.
