ECN Concerned as Only 19, 359 Voters Register

By: Dwight Links

Only 19, 359 people were successfully registered during the Supplementary Voter Registration (SVR) since it commenced on 4 August.

This is according to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) updates provided earlier this week.

The registration process has taken place in 121 constituencies so far, also having covered 59 local authorities in this same period.

“The commission encourages and urges all eligible voters to register, especially young voters who have turned 18 since the conclusion of the 2024 General Registration of Voters,” the electoral body stated.

The ECN also stated that there were a considerable number of voters who have moved between constituencies, with some requiring duplicate voter cards.

More than 12, 000 voters moved between constituencies, and over 4 000 registered for duplicate cards, the commission noted.

“We appreciate all eligible voters who made efforts to register during the first week of the SVR, as the commission noted with great concern the low turnout that was recorded,” said ECN spokesperson, De Wet Siluka.
