The National Assembly that was supposed to start sitting on Tuesday 19 May 2020 is now expected to do so on 25 May 2020.
The speaker, Professor Peter Katjavivi said they postponed the resumption of parliament after the finance minister Ipumbu Shiimi requested them to do so.
Shiimi is expected to table the delayed 2020/21 national budget when parliament sits. Usually, the national budget is tabled in March but the advent of Covid-19 disallowed this year’s budget from being tabled.
In the absence of a budget, the government was using 1/3 of the 2019/20 national budget, which is about N$22 billion.
