Mud-slinging, jealous throttle economic freedom – Angula

Former finance, fisheries and agriculture minister, Helmuth Angula, has said that Namibia’s dream of economic sovereignty is being hamstrung by minds that have been hijacked by “international monopoly capital”, character assassinations and jealous.

Angula, who has expressed his reservations at the manner in which fisheries minister Albert Kawana has dished out the fishing rights, suggested that Namibians are their own worst enemies.

“We should not have dished out so little and how will people make it? No, they will never make it with those small hand-outs. You have to be in a position where you say yes in the next 10 years, we should empower

“Black companies so that they will be viable. But if given them 500mt who will finance 500mt? Nobody. Those things will end up again the hands of the highest bidder and the highest bidder is a non-African.”

The former cabinet minister, speaking during a lengthy interview on the Early Morning Scoop, said when the state empowers the black businessman it easily gets black-painted as corruption.

He added that this is not the case when white-run institutions like JP Morgan, which he said is in the hands of the “Manhattan mafia”, bailout white businesses, that is considered in a positive light.

“These Canadians, you call them Canadians, who owns Tsumeb? And when they did take it the first time 100 years ago when you and I were not even born, whom did they compete with? Never. The Germans came, took it. When the South Africans came, they conquered it. We will never catch up if think that the Blackman will just do it on his own without any backing.

“We are saying the government should back up nationals to come up with national capitalism because anyway we are all capitalist. The first thing the Queen asks you when you talk to her is how are you dealing with the private sector and the private sector is Rossing.

You see corruption when a Blackman is given a licence. Whom should they give the license, should the government give the license to the British? And you are happy with that. Please, Black people, wake up, wake up else you will languish in this slavery under capitalists,” he said.
