A 20-year-old man was admitted to the Swakopmund State Hospital Tuesday after sustaining burns while he was allegedly trying to steal cables.
Erongo police said the cables belonged to ErongoRed base station that is behind NamWater at the coastal town.
Police community affairs commander Ileni Shapumba said workers at ErongoRed discovered that there were cables that had been cut while for duty on Monday.
Shapumba said the workers had been ordered to follow-up on what had caused power to trip on Sunday night.
He further said that the workers found the place where cables had been cut and that they also found some bloodstains.
A team was sent to check the hospital for anyone who had been admitted with burn injuries and they found the 20-year-old.
The damage caused losses of N$80 000.
