
Fisheries minister Albert Kawana said 1 300 jobs are ready for absorption after six fishing companies offered their best terms to employ them. The ministry of labour will coordinate the placement.

“On top of this, I was very careful. I requested a written legal opinion from the AG office. I was advised by the AG to say those companies have a right to apply like any applicant. But they must comply with the law like any other applicant.
“Additionally, in the past, there used to be internal ministerial processes, a decision was taken to say we need to do things differently and engage impartial credible institutions to process applications to avoid corruption and favouritism. Other companies quoted N$39 million to do this. Unam quoted N$5 million.
