The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Directorate of Veterinary Services, has announced that it will conduct a regional Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) awareness campaign between 16 and 20 March 2026.
This is in response to the FMD threats in the SADC Region, with Namibia’s neighbours – South Africa and Botswana – reporting a number of cases.
The Ministry explained that the main aim of the awareness campaign is to strengthen Namibia’s preparedness and response to FMD through regional engagements with livestock farmers.
The sessions will also provide critical information on FMD, address concerns related to prevention and control measures, and enhance collective readiness.
The awareness will cover the Omaheke, Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto, Kunene South, //Kharas and Hardap regions.
