Namibia and Botswana trade has mainly consisted of diamond trade, where Namibia exports raw stones to Botswana. However, in September 2026, the country exported eggs to Botswana.

According to the data collected by the Livestock and Livestock Product Board of Namibia, Namibian poultry farmers have exported 108,000 eggs to Botswana during the month of September 2026.

Eggs are not the only product sold to Botswana. Namibia sells electricity to Botswana as well.

The two countries have also opened a 24-hour border post and have partnered on the utilisation of identification documents as a mobility document.

The egg and electricity export also represent a diversification in trade as diamond prices slump.

The Namibia poultry and poultry product sector is one of the emerging sectors with few bigger players and many emerging producers.

Eggs marketed by local producers in September 2026 were 4.49% higher than in September 2025, at 11.14 million compared with 10.66 million, and 10.49% higher than in August (10.08 million) the board revealed.

Waldschmidt accounted for 89.20% (9,938,256 eggs) of September marketing, Wentscher for 1,047,000 eggs, and other producers for 156,240 eggs.

In addition, year to date, 94.01 million eggs were marketed, 13.09% more than in January–September 2025 (83.13 million).

The average egg price remained unchanged at N$2.42/unit in September 2026, 1.22% lower than in September 2025 (N$2.45/unit).

Price movements across egg sizes were mixed: small egg prices rose by 14.84% m/m to N$1.78/unit and medium eggs by 0.41% to N$2.45/unit, while large, extra-large and jumbo egg prices declined by 6.03%, 2.15% and 1.67% to N$2.18, N$2.73 and N$2.94/unit, respectively.

According to Namibia Statistics Agency September trade data, on the supply side, Namibia exported poultry and poultry products valued at N$49.0 million, with the DRC, Zambia, and Botswana serving as the main export destinations.

On the demand side, the country imported poultry and poultry products worth N$53.4 million, primarily sourced from Brazil, South Africa, and the United States of America (USA).
