Welwitchia University continues to produce highly competent graduates who are making meaningful contributions across Namibia’s healthcare sector. Among these distinguished alumni is Sr. Theresia Martin, an Enrolled Nurse and Midwife currently serving at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital. Her professional journey reflects resilience, dedication, and the value of quality education in preparing healthcare professionals to serve communities with excellence.
Like many young Namibians, Sr. Martin’s journey into higher education was guided by opportunity and determination. She explains that she did not have many options when deciding where to pursue her studies. After reviewing her Grade 12 results, she realized that she met the admission requirements for Welwitchia University and submitted her application. Looking back today, she confidently describes that decision as one that changed her life for the better.
“I didn’t really have an option regarding which university to attend. I looked at my points, qualified for Welwitchia University, applied, and the rest is history,” she says.
Her experience demonstrates that success is not always determined by having countless choices, but rather by making the most of the opportunities available. Through commitment and hard work, Sr. Martin transformed that opportunity into a rewarding professional career.
One of the highlights of her academic journey was the exceptional support she received from her lecturers. According to Sr. Martin, the quality of teaching at Welwitchia University played a significant role in helping her understand both the theoretical and practical components of nursing and midwifery.
“My teachers were really the best. I never had challenges understanding what I was studying because they taught us so well that everything seemed easy,” she recalls.
Quality education is built on knowledgeable and committed educators, and Sr. Martin believes her lecturers laid a strong academic foundation that prepared her for the realities of clinical practice. Their guidance gave her the confidence and competence required to transition smoothly into the healthcare profession.
When asked what makes Welwitchia University different from other institutions, Sr. Martin offers a balanced perspective. She acknowledges that many universities offer similar academic programmes. However, she believes that what truly matters is how students apply the knowledge and skills they acquire throughout their studies.
“I can’t really say Welwitchia is different because the courses they offer are also available at other universities,” she explains.
Her response reflects professional maturity and highlights an important reality: regardless of where one studies, dedication, discipline, and a willingness to learn remain the key ingredients for success.
Perhaps one of the most encouraging aspects of her journey is how quickly she entered the workforce after completing her studies. Sr. Martin secured employment within just three months of graduating, a testament to both her preparedness and the demand for qualified healthcare professionals in Namibia.
“It took me only three months to get a job,” she proudly states.
Today, she serves patients at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where she contributes to improving healthcare delivery through compassionate nursing care and maternal health services. As an enrolled nurse and midwife, she plays an essential role in supporting patients and families during some of the most important moments of their lives.
To prospective students considering a career in healthcare, Sr. Martin has a simple but powerful message. She encourages young people not to underestimate Welwitchia University and to remain committed to pursuing quality education.
“Welwitchia is a good school, so students should not limit themselves from trying their best,” she advises.
Her message serves as an inspiration to aspiring nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals who dream of making a difference in society. It also reinforces the importance of perseverance, believing in oneself, and embracing educational opportunities that lead to personal and professional growth.
Welwitchia University remains committed to producing graduates who are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and ethical values needed to transform lives and strengthen Namibia’s healthcare system. Alumni such as Sr. Theresia Martin demonstrate the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and professional development.
Her story is more than a personal success; it is a reminder that determination, quality education, and hard work can open doors to meaningful careers. As she continues serving patients at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, Sr. Martin stands as a proud ambassador of Welwitchia University and an inspiration to future generations of healthcare professionals.
