During an engagement between the Prime Minister and farmers in the Omaheke Region, Chief Tjinaani Maharero of the Maharero Traditional Authority, 95 hectares of land was availed.
The land will be used to replicate the Otjombinde community garden project and support the cultivation of groundnuts for peanut butter production.
This initiative is aimed at supplying the government’s planned peanut butter processing factory in Otjinene, which is expected to boost local agricultural production, create employment opportunities, and strengthen food security in the region.
Prime Minister Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, accompanied by Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate, visited the allocated portion of land on 28 May 2026 following the genocide commemorations.
During the visit, the Prime Minister commended Chief Maharero for his prompt response and commitment to development initiatives.
Ngurare noted that the allocation demonstrates the growing cooperation between government and traditional authorities, emphasising that both institutions are now working together towards a common vision of economic empowerment and rural development.
The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to promote community-based agriculture, value addition, and sustainable livelihoods in rural areas
