Nam Now Exports Live Cattle to Mauritius

The market watch for the beef sector has revealed that Mauritius was the second importer of Namibian weaners/live cattle.

It was recorded that the Indian Ocean island took up 32.86% of Namibia’s live exports after South Africa, which accounted for 65.23% of total live exports, according to the March 2026 briefing from the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia.

Total marketing of cattle increased by 18.38% on a year-on-year basis, from 18,467 cattle marketed during April 2025 to 21,862 in April 2026.

Year-on-year, live exports (recorded at 8,521 heads) were 93.04% higher than the 4,414 heads exported in April 2025.

After South Africa and Mauritius were accounted for, some of the Namibian weaners were exported to the DRC and Angola.

In April 2026, the weaner-to-B2 price ratio was recorded at 41.88%, higher than the ratio recorded in March (40.18%). However, it was significantly below the established benchmark of 64% for the period under review.

This lower ratio indicates that weaner prices remain weak relative to slaughter prices, making slaughter farming more profitable compared to weaner exports.
