From April to June 2026, the Directorate of Labour Market Services has registered a total of 3,487 new jobseekers, comprising 1,414 males and 2,073 females.
According to the Ministry of Labour Relations Quarterly Report for the second quarter (which is quarter 1 according to the Ministry calendar).
The jobseekers and vacancies are registered in the online Namibia Integrated Employment Information System (NIEIS), which is hosted by the Labour Ministry.
Khomas Region recorded the highest number of registrations with 780 jobseekers, followed by Erongo with 464, Oshana with 422, Kavango East with 271, Ohangwena with 229, and Omaheke with 212.
Omusati Region registered with 206, Kunene with 173, Zambezi with 148, Kavango West with 146, and //Kharas with 131.
The lowest numbers of registrations were recorded in Otjozondjupa and Oshikoto, with 96 and 94 jobseekers, respectively.
The lowest numbers in these regions do not, however, mean that there is low employment, but rather utilisation of NIEIS.
Of the 3,487 registered jobseekers, the majority (3,174) were unemployed, while 313 were employed jobseekers seeking better employment opportunities.
Twelve (12) of the registered jobseekers were persons with disabilities.
The unemployed jobseekers have different educational attainments.
The majority had completed junior secondary education (1,102), followed by senior secondary education (958), certificates or diplomas (528), primary education (227), 215 had university degrees, and postgraduate qualifications (19).
Within the pool, the Ministry has also noted that 97 of the jobseekers had no formal education.m
QUARTERLY VACANCIES
During the quarter under review, the Directorate has reported a total of 706 vacancies through both online and manual channels on the Namibia Integrated Employment Information System (NIEIS).
Of these, 582 vacancies were reported online, while 124 were submitted manually using Form ESA 3A.
Of the vacancies reported online, Khomas Region recorded the highest number with 188 vacancies, followed by //Kharas with 97, Erongo with 88, Omaheke with 62, Otjozondjupa with 31, Kunene with 26, and Ohangwena with 20.
In terms of industrial classification, the education sector recorded the highest number of vacancies at 117, followed by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with 73, and Human Health and Social Work Activities with 46.
For manually reported vacancies, Khomas Region recorded the highest number with 39 vacancies, followed by //Kharas with 26 and Erongo with 14.
In terms of industrial classification, Education accounted for the majority of manually reported vacancies, with 109, followed by Construction with 7 and Public Administration with 3.
PLACEMENT
According to the Directorate’s explanation, the placement of jobseekers depends on the availability of suitable job opportunities.
Of the 706 vacancies reported, a total of 257 jobseekers were successfully placed, comprising 151 females and 106 males.
Kavango West Region recorded the highest number of placements with 37, followed by Oshikoto with 34, Omaheke with 31, Omusati with 28, Ohangwena with 21, Oshana with 19, Kavango East with 18, Erongo with 15, and Otjozondjupa with 13.
Khomas and Kunene each recorded 12 placements, while //Kharas and Zambezi recorded 9 and 8 placements, respectively.
In terms of industrial classification, the majority of placements were recorded in Public Administration and Defence; Compulsory Social Security, with 139 placements.
Education followed with 62, Wholesale and Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles with 30, Mining and Quarrying with 11, Construction with 6, and 4 were placed under Human Health and Social Work Activities.
Activities of Households as Employers recorded 2, and Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing recorded 1 placement.
DESIGNATED EMPLOYERS
During the quarter under review, a total of 81 Designated Employers (DEs) were registered on the Namibia Integrated Employment Information System.
The highest number of registrations was recorded in the Khomas Region, with 49 registrations, followed by the Erongo Region with 14, Kavango East with 5, Omaheke with 4, Otjozondjupa with 3, and //Kharas with 2.
The Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshikoto, and Zambezi Regions each recorded one Designated Employer registration.
The Ministry planned to train 36 Designated Employers (DEs) and training institutions on the use of the Namibia Integrated Employment Information System during the quarter.
A total of 37 training sessions were conducted, reaching 133 participants, the report revealed.
The training focused on enabling Designated Employers and training institutions to use the NIEIS effectively for reporting vacancies, recruiting, and submitting establishment profiles online.
