FNB Namibia officially launched the 2026/27 Women’s Super League (WSL) season on Tuesday morning at the FNB headquarters in Windhoek.

The bank has been a staunch supporter of Namibian women’s football since the 2022/23 and signed a new three year N$9 million deal to support the league for another three years in December 2025.

The NFA revealed that N$111,000 will be added to the sponsorship this year to account for inflation.

Speaking at the launch, FNB Namibia Manager of Sponsorships & Social Impact, Revonia Andreas, stated that the league represents more than competition on the football field. “It represents ambition, determination, and the countless young women who see football as a pathway to greater opportunities,” Andreas said.

Women’s football has been on a rise in Namibia, with the WSL responsible for nurturing the majority of the talent that was part of the Brave Gladiators winning the COSAFA Cup in March.

“The FNB Women’s Super League has become a valuable platform for identifying, developing and showcasing some of Namibia’s most promising football talent,” Andreas added.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Dino Ballotti, was also present at the launch. He praised FNB Namibia for their support of the league.

“When the league is strong, our national league is equally strong. This league is where it is today because FNB have chosen to put their name and money behind it,” Ballotti said.

Ballotti went on to say that neither the government nor the private sector can build Namibia’s sports economy on their own.

“The partnership between the NFA and FNB Namibia is the kind we want to see more of. I invite other companies to look at women’s football and see the opportunity that is there,” Ballotti said.

FC Ongos are the defending champions of the WSL. Ongos team manager, Mariasela Davids, told The Villager that they are looking forward to another competitive season, after they had to fight to the very last day of the season to seal last season’s title win.

“We hope that this year all teams will be competitive and give us a run for our money. We don’t want a league that is easy for us. It gives us a national team as well,” Davids expressed.

The WSL will kick off on 7 November 2026, along with the rest of the Namibian football season.
