Elikan Hamutenya, a proud graduate of the International University of Management (IUM), stands as a shining example of perseverance, dedication, and professionalism in the Namibian civil service.
Currently serving as a teacher in the Oshana Region, his story is one of resilience and the transformative power of education.
Elikan’s journey into the public service was not without challenges. “I attended four interviews in total. I did not succeed in the first three, but I passed the fourth one, which opened the door to my current position,” he recalls. His persistence through those early disappointments speaks volumes about his
determination to achieve his dreams. For him, each setback was a learning experience, preparing him for the moment that would finally change his life.
“As a proud graduate of the International University of Management, my journey into the civil service has been both inspiring and rewarding,” he shared proudly. The values he acquired at IUM – professionalism, dedication, and integrity – became the guiding principles of his work ethic. For Elikan, working in the public sector is more than just a job; it is a calling to serve his community and contribute to Namibia’s national development. “I take great pride in contributing meaningfully to the growth of our nation,” he adds.
His sense of purpose reflects the core of IUM’s vision: to nurture graduates who are not only academically capable, but also socially responsible and ethically grounded.
When asked why he chose IUM, Elikan pointed to the university’s reputation. “I chose IUM because of its strong reputation for producing competent, confident, and ethical graduates. The university’s practical approach to teaching, coupled with its focus on leadership and innovation, gave me the assurance that I would be well prepared for the job market,” he explained.
This belief in the institution’s mission continues to inspire him in his professional life, where he applies the lessons of leadership and discipline learned during his studies.
Elikan also commended the institution’s continuous aid even after students have graduated, sharing that “IUM continues to strengthen its career development support for its graduates by offering them with more mock interviews, communication workshops, and mentorship programmes.”
Reflecting on his years at IUM, Elikan describes them as “truly transformative.”
He noted that “The lecturers were dedicated and supportive, and the environment encouraged discipline, teamwork, and critical thinking. The experience equipped me not only with academic knowledge, but also with life skills that continue to guide me in my professional journey.”
Today, as he stands before his students in Oshana, Elika embodies the values and vision of IUM – confidence, competence, and commitment to excellence.
His story serves as an inspiration to many young graduates still searching for their breakthrough. Through his resilience and hard work, he reminds us that success often comes not to those who never fail, but to those who never give up.
Elikan Hamutenya’s journey is a testament to the enduring impact of IUM’s philosophy: Education for Development.
From his days as a hopeful student to his current role as a dedicated teacher, he
continues to carry the IUM spirit wherever he goes; uplifting others, shaping young minds, and contributing to the future of Namibia.
