Know Your IUM Alumni Civil Servants

By: Stephanus Pombili

The International University of Management (IUM) continues to prove its critics wrong by producing graduates who are not only employable, but also thriving in Namibia’s civil service.

One shining example is Fimanekeni Pombili Phillipus, a dedicated educator at Ndilula Naikaku Primary School in the Eenhana Circuit, Ohangwena Region, whose story speaks to the quality of IUM graduates.

Pombili recalls her career journey with pride and clarity. “I can’t remember exactly, but it didn’t take me long to secure a permanent job,” she reflects. After starting interviews in 2023, she was employed as a temporary teacher the same year. By early 2024, she had already secured a permanent teaching position. In her estimation, she did not go through more than ten interviews before achieving her goal. This speaks to both her preparation and the strength of her academic background.

For Pombili, being a product of IUM comes with notable pride. “As I am speaking right now, I am permanently employed by the Government of the Republic of Namibia. I am doing so well as a teacher, and I have not found the profession challenging yet, because I am well-equipped. My university was indeed the best; I am a proud product of IUM.”

She emphasises that IUM is no different from any other recognised university. Accredited and supported by the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF), IUM provides quality education led by qualified lecturers and professors. It offers relevant courses critical for national development and, importantly, has an international outlook. “I am living proof that IUM shapes capable professionals,” she declares.

Pombili also states that IUM added interview coaching, career fairs, and networking events, which better prepare final-year students for the job market. Moreover, she noted that faculties always provide practical interview documents, which equip graduates with sharper competitive skills.

Before enrolling at IUM, Pombili was in search of more than just a degree, she wanted practical skills and mentorship that would transform her into a professional educator. She relays that she found exactly that at IUM. The lecturers’ accessibility, expertise, and support simplified her academic journey and enabled her to graduate with an Honours Degree in Pre and Junior Primary Education. Supported financially by NSFAF throughout her studies, Pombili says IUM gave her both confidence and professional readiness.

Her advice to aspiring students is that: “Studying at IUM is one of the best moves you can make for your future. The path may look challenging, but you are not alone. At IUM, there is unity, teamwork, and mentorship. Believe in yourself, take that first step, and one day you will proudly celebrate the decision of studying at IUM.”
