These are the powerful words of Mr. Kangende Michael, an alumnus of the International University of Management (IUM) and now a full-time teacher. His story is one of perseverance, growth, and academic transformation through the support and quality education offered at IUM.
Mr. Michael began his academic journey at IUM four years ago, enrolling in the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Senior Primary program. Like many first-year students transitioning from secondary school, he initially faced numerous challenges. “It was a completely new environment for me. I had to adjust from the structure of high school to the independence and expectations of university life,” he recalls.
However, Mr. Michael quickly discovered that he was not alone on this journey. The faculty at The International University of Management (IUM) provided a strong foundation of support that helped him navigate the initial hurdles. “Despite the challenges, the lecturers at IUM made sure I felt at home. They created an environment that made learning enjoyable,” he said with pride.
For Mr. Michael, one of the defining aspects of his time at IUM was the emphasis on face-to-face teaching. “IUM believes in direct interaction between lecturers and students,” he explains. “This approach allows for meaningful engagement, where students are free to ask questions, share ideas, and learn through real-life discussions.” According to him, this hands-on, interactive teaching model distinguishes IUM from many other institutions.
Beyond the lecture halls, Mr. Michael describes his campus life as dynamic and enriching. “Students came from all parts of Namibia, from different cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. That diversity taught me a lot,” he says. Interacting with fellow students from various regions expanded his worldview and helped him develop important social and communication skills that continue to serve him well as an educator today.
Equally important to Mr. Michael’s academic success were the resources provided by the university. “The libraries were always available, internet access was reliable, and the computer lab had everything we needed to do our academic work efficiently,” he notes. These resources enabled students to conduct research, complete assignments, and enhance their learning experience in a professional academic setting.
One of the standout features of IUM, according to Mr. Michael, is its team of qualified and committed lecturers. “IUM has top-notch lecturers who are passionate about teaching and who go the extra mile to ensure every student succeeds,” he says. He believes that this commitment to quality education is what gives IUM graduates an edge in the job market.
Mr. Michael’s own post-graduation journey is a testament to this. He graduated in May 2025 and secured permanent employment as a teacher just a month later in June. “That is a clear indication that IUM produces graduates who are ready for the workforce,” he says. He credits this success not only to the academic content but also to the soft skills training and career preparation IUM provides. “Through CV writing workshops and interview skills training, IUM prepares students for the realities of the job market,” he adds.
He urges those who may still doubt the value of an IUM education to consider his story as living proof. “I am a real-life example of what IUM can do. The education I received here has equipped me to compete in today’s tough job market,” he emphasizes.
