The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) chief executive officer, Titus Nampala, has called for unity in driving Namibia’s economic transformation amid ever-evolving trade conditions.
Nampala made these remarks in a press statement released through the Chamber’s social media platforms on Friday.
The statement emphasised that commerce in Namibia is expected to deliver the economic growth needed to address various social challenges affecting citizens.
“It is noted with concern that, at a time when unity of purpose within the business community is most needed, the Chamber, which is a national advocacy body representing all Namibians, has been drawn into divisive issues. Our mandate is to ensure that an enabling operating environment exists and is continuously reshaped to meet the entrepreneurial, investment, and trade needs of our people,” read the statement.
The NCCI further highlighted that it acts as a bridge between the private sector and government stakeholders, including regulators and policymakers, to ensure meaningful dialogue in shaping Namibia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“It is important to note that the work of the Chamber goes beyond serving only its members. Our focus is to support commerce in Namibia as a whole. Regarding membership size, we have not released official annual figures, as our intention has never been to create an exclusive group of enterprises, but rather to unite all commercial entities within our borders, regardless of size,” Nampala said.
The NCCI further stressed that building a resilient and competitive commercial environment in Namibia requires collective effort and coordinated leadership across all advocacy formations, particularly at the sectoral level.
“When we advocate for sound policies and an enabling business environment, we do so not only for NCCI members, but for all Namibian enterprises,” Nampala said.
He also added that the local media plays a critical role in disseminating information that educates, enlightens, and facilitates the movement of goods and services, which are key ingredients in building a thriving nation, saying “what the media communicates daily shapes how far we progress as a country.”
