Following the ongoing industrial strike at Namib Mills, the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Fillemon Immanuel, facilitated a meeting between Namib Mills and the Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU).
At the meeting, the parties managed to agree on key issues in efforts to resolve matters: annual salary increment percentage; equitable salary adjustments for same job grades; increase in the drivers’ night-out allowance; increase in the medical aid coverage; non-discounting of bonuses, and the finalisation of a procedural agreement between the parties.
According to the Labour Ministry’s update, only three issues remain unresolved: (a) the standard minimum entry level, (b) increase in the transport allowance, and (c) effective implementation of the annual salary increment.
For these remaining issues, the Minister has ordered the parties to exchange further particulars, and have a consensus reached by this week to enable final settlement.
