Corridor Diversification No Longer Optional – Corridor Group

As regional cargo flows expand, supply chain resilience and predictability have become critical decision factors for cargo owners, mining houses, freight forwarders, and transporters. As a result, corridor diversification is no longer optional; it is a strategic necessity, according to the Walvis Bay Corridor Group.

In a statement released last week, the Group noted that the upward trend in freight movement in the region reflects accelerating intra-African trade under the AfCFTA framework and increasing demand for efficient, reliable logistics solutions.

In this context, the Corridor Group said the Port of Walvis Bay and its corridors offer a competitive and time-efficient gateway into Zambia, the DRC, and beyond. Key advantages include:

  • Shorter sailing distances to Europe and the Americas
  • Efficient port turnaround times
  • Reduced congestion risks
  • Competitive transit times to key inland mining hubs
  • Integrated corridor support and coordinated stakeholder engagement
  • Stable and secure trade environment

The Walvis Bay corridors provide a balanced and complementary routing option that enhances cargo predictability, mitigates regional bottlenecks, and strengthens supply chain continuity.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, Edward Shivute, stated that “For cargo owners and logistics operators, this is an opportunity to optimise routing strategies by leveraging diversified corridors that enhance resilience, efficiency, and long-term competitiveness.”
