Bright Freelancing Trains, Mentors Entrepreneurs

By: Loise Shiimi

Along with various stakeholders, Bright Freelancing provided monitoring services and training to over 100 entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.

Sanku Martin Rourence, executive director at Bright Freelancing, explained to The Villager the purpose of this training, highlighting the importance of sharing information, providing coaching and mentoring, and creating a platform for networking among young entrepreneurs.

“It equips participants with practical knowledge, connects them with key institutions, and inspires them to grow their businesses into sustainable brands. Over the years, many past participants have successfully formalised, scaled, and expanded their businesses as a direct result of these seminars,” he stated.

When asked how entrepreneurs can thrive and expand, Rourence advised that they embrace scaling and the concept of levelling up, moving beyond mere survival to building brands that can compete with larger firms. He further stressed the importance of creating value in business, not only through products and services, but also in how entrepreneurs position themselves and connect with their customers.

“Success requires a progressive mindset that welcomes innovation and continuous improvement, rather than a static mindset that resists change and limits growth,” he noted.

Moreover, he encouraged young entrepreneurs to view scaling as more than just an increase in size; it should also reflect a commitment to sustainability, competitiveness, and long-term impact.

During the training, Petrus Petrus from the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) discussed ways to access financing, outlining the various facilities available at DBN for youth and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Ensure that you prepare proper business plans and proposals before approaching financial institutions. This will help you navigate the requirements and procedures for accessing loans and financial support,” he advised.

Petrus also mentioned that DBN is committed to supporting innovative and scalable projects that create jobs and positively impact communities.

Another speaker, Simson Shivolo from the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), highlighted the importance of tax compliance for entrepreneurs.

“All entrepreneurs should maintain proper records and registrations to help their businesses qualify for tenders, funding, and partnerships. I encourage all entrepreneurs to view taxation as part of being a responsible and professional business owner,” he stated.

Addressing the role of leadership in business, Victoria Joel, founder of Circle of Hope Private Academy (COHA), noted that a business cannot grow beyond the capacity of its leader.

“As an entrepreneur, you must cultivate key leadership qualities such as vision, resilience, and emotional intelligence to thrive. Leadership is not only about authority, it’s also about inspiring and guiding teams,” she added.

This seminar is held annually to train and mentor entrepreneurs, bringing together officials from relevant organisations to share ideas and provide assistance where necessary.
