Digital acceleration to help employment

The Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Namibian-Swiss venture builder Impact Tank.
Impact Tank is a non-profit organisation that uses social entrepreneurship as a means to create sustainable impact.
The MoU is aimed at creating transformative, self-sustaining, digital programmes to accelerate employment in the digital and technology space.
ICT Deputy Minister Emma Theofelus said the ministry is committed to continuously transforming the nation, while ensuring Namibia has the necessary skills in the country to respond to market needs.
She emphasised that this MoU will ensure that young people have the digital skills to ensure they are employed and self-sustaining.
“The digital programmes through MoU between Ministry of MICT and Impact Tank will ensure that technological spaces will promote their position of digital skills and establish Namibia as a hub and participant in the global and the digital knowledgeable economy,” said Theofelus.
Chief executive officer and Founder of Impact Tank, Elzine Gawaxab-Mushambi, during the signing ceremony shared the same sentiments.
Mushambi said they intend to harness technology to create sustainable jobs for Namibian people by providing valuable services to global corporations.
She added that the current economic climate poses challenges that require real world issues, and that accelerated development and the inclusion of digital tools to overcome these challenges.
