A 23-year-old street vendor Isabella Joseph, who was allegedly poured with urine by a Chinese businesswoman Weng Long Zumei, says her feet swelled up following the incident.
She further told The Villager that she could no longer sell her produce as all was ruined by the urine.
“I was getting terrible headaches ever since, and even my feet were swollen,” she said.
Joseph told The Villager that she wants to be paid for in damage for the trauma as she says she felt dehumanised by the incident.
“I want this Chinese woman to pay me. All the Oshiwambo speaking people know that pouring urine on someone is taboo. Not only that, these days, I am not even working because my products were poured with urine,” said Joseph.
Joseph, who sells fruits and vegetables, added that she also felt some sort of illness after the incident.
According to Joseph, this was not the first time Zumei assaulted her. In her grievance, she told The Villager that she and her colleagues operate in front of Zumei’s shop in Kuryangava at the Shop and Stop complex.
“Every time she comes to the shop, she always pushes me and insults me. She uses bad words such as, “Go far, you idiot. F*** you. You are selling in front of my shop.” But we are not that close to the shop. She just has a problem with us selling our things there,” she grieved.
Joseph further said Zumei continuously poured them with water that she uses to mop the floor.
The incident took place last week Thursday at Stop and Shop in Katutura. Zumei was arrested on the same day and was released on bail of N$ 500.
Due to the public demands, commissioner Ismael Basson ordered Zumei ‘s re-arrest on Friday. She appeared in magistrate court and was found guilty and ordered to pay a second admission of guilt fine of N$ 1000 before being released from custody.
According to reports, however, she claimed that she was not guilty and that she did not understand what she was doing when she signed the admission of guilt because she does not understand English.
