Man nabbed over Fishrot suspect’s bank cards

Paulus Noa

The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested a man who wanted to bribe an investigator in order to be given a bank cards that belongs to one of six people in prison for the Fishrot scandal.

ACC director general Paulus Noa confirmed the arrest to Eagle FM on Tuesday, saying that the man was arrested in Katutura, Windhoek, on Monday this week.

The six arrested in connection with the Fishrot scandal are former ministers Sacky Shanghala and Benhard Esau, former Investec managers James Htuikulipi and Ricardo Gustavo, Tamson Hatuikulipi and Pius Mwatelulo.

The director-general could not, however, say which of these six had sent the man who was arrested.

Noa said that the man approached the ACC investigator and offered him a lot of money to release some bank cards and documents about the Fishrot case.

The man cannot be named now since he is yet to appear in court on Wednesday.

According to Noa, the man offered the investigator about N$2 million in cash if he could release the bank cards that are part of the evidence in the scandal that involves N$150m.

The idea, Noa said, was for one of the six accused to be able to withdraw money from the accounts.

“He wanted to get the card and then get the pin from one of the suspects,” Noa said.
