Graduate employability remains one of the most important indicators of a university’s success. Beyond producing graduates, higher education institutions have a responsibility to equip students with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional values required by employers. In pursuit of this objective, Welwitchia University has undertaken graduate employability assessments in various regions of Namibia to evaluate the performance of its alumni in the workplace.

The findings from the Kavango West Region present an encouraging picture for the University’s Nkure-Nkuru Campus. The qualitative assessment revealed that many graduates from the campus have secured employment in public health facilities across the region, demonstrating the University’s contribution to the development of Namibia’s healthcare sector.

During visits to healthcare institutions, including Nkurenkuru Primary Health Care Centre, Nankudu District Hospital,  ELCIN Hospital etc, the assessment observed a significant presence of Welwitchia University graduates. Many alumni are serving as registered nurses and enrolled nurses, providing quality healthcare services to their communities. Their presence across these institutions reflects the confidence that employers continue to place in Welwitchia University graduates.

An equally encouraging finding is that several graduates reportedly secured employment shortly before completing their studies or soon after graduation. This reflects the relevance of the University’s academic programmes and the practical training students receive throughout their studies. Employers interviewed during the assessment consistently acknowledged that graduates possess the competencies required to perform effectively in demanding healthcare environments.

Ward supervisors and healthcare managers praised Welwitchia University alumni for their professionalism, punctuality, competence, commitment to patient care and ethical conduct. Such positive feedback demonstrates that the University is producing graduates who are capable of making meaningful contributions to Namibia’s public healthcare system.

The assessment further highlights the important role played by the Nkure-Nkuru Campus in addressing the demand for skilled healthcare professionals within the Kavango West Region. Rather than contributing to graduate unemployment, the campus is producing professionals who are absorbed into the labour market and who continue to serve the communities where healthcare services are most needed.

Welwitchia University remains committed to producing graduates who combine academic excellence with practical competence. The institution continuously strives to align its programmes with the needs of employers while maintaining high academic standards. This commitment has enabled many of its graduates to build successful careers and contribute positively to national development.

The Nkure-Nkuru Campus offers a range of programmes designed to prepare students for rewarding careers. These include the Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery Science (NQF Level 8) and the Certificate in Enrolled Nursing and Midwifery (NQF LEVEL 6).
