Total sheep marketing increased from 58,787 head in February 2026 to 88,718 head in March 2026, driven primarily by a sharp increase in live exports.
Of this, 75,286 were exported live and 13,432 slaughtered.
This is according to the monthly updates by the Livestock and Livestock Product Board of Namibia.
Live exports grew by 57.38%, indicating strong export demand, while export abattoir throughput increased by 26.99%, reflecting improved abattoir off-take.
B&C class abattoir slaughtering recorded a modest increase of 11.26% from 3,003 head to 3,341 head, but remained significantly lower than earlier months.
In March 2026, South Africa remained the dominant destination for Namibia’s live sheep exports, accounting for 99.75% of total exports, marginally down from 100% in February 2026.
0.22% went to Angola and about 0.02% to Zimbabwe, reflecting minimal diversification to alternative markets.
