Since its inception in 2000, the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project has raised N$38.4 million for the Cancer Association of Namibia.
The project involves sourcing, distributing, and mobilising dedicated teams that work behind the scenes to raise funds by selling apples and apple juices and receiving donations through the sale of virtual apples on the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple website.
The bank is also raising funds through its mobile app as an added value.
Last week, Bank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Marketing and Corporate Communication Services, Jacquiline Pack, announced that the Cancer Apple Project’s official launch has been strategically moved to February 2026.
She said this launch date coincides with the peak apple harvest season from February to March, ensuring that the bank procures the highest quality while achieving cost savings.
Pack added that an earlier start to the project calendar will also foster greater student engagement and participation, laying the groundwork for a meaningful campaign as it continues to support the fight against cancer.
She emphasised that the public could continue contributing via the bank’s e-apple platform, which is available on the Bank Windhoek website.
Although the sale of physical apples has moved to February 2026, Pack shared that the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project has officially introduced a voluntary donation feature available on the Bank Windhoek Mobile App.
This feature allows customers to immediately contribute starting from N$5 with each payment. All proceeds will be handed over to the Cancer Association of Namibia as part of the annual project.
“We are excited about this new schedule’s potential and eagerly anticipate the far-reaching benefits it will generate for our community,” said Pack.
In preparation for the launch, the bank conducted research through one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and a public survey published on Bank Windhoek’s social media platforms, and close to 7,000 responses were received.
This enables the bank to engage key stakeholders and obtain insights to improve the project after 25 years.
