A 36-yearold man who appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court last week has admitted to assaulting a woman, but denies having murdered a man on the same day. Bernadus Nanub is accused of stabbing the victim to death in 2012, before going on an assaulting spree in Hakahana.
He was charged with one count of murder, one count of common assault and a third count of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. It is alleged that on 11 December 2012, Nanub was in the Hakahana informal settlement where he allegedly stabbed Amon Mohinga with a knife on the right side of the chest. Mohinga succumbed to his injuries. On the same day in the same residential area, he allegedly assaulted Christofina Kharuchas by slapping her in the face with his hand.
He is also being accused of assaulting Erastus Gaeseb by hitting him with a brick on his hand, which resulted in the third charge. He pleaded not guilty to the first and third charge, but pleaded guilty to the second one in which he is accused of having slapped Kharuchas. The trial was partiallyheard between 12 May to 28 August this year, and was postponed to 30 October this year for the typing of the record.
