Permithias reaching for the stars

Name: Permithias Nelioth Owoseb

Stage name: Permithias

Age: 26-years-old

Marital status: Single

Occupation: Celebrity, chef and musician

Many remember Permithias as the smooth talking Big Brother Africa (BBA) housemate whose angelic voice made ladies weak at the knees. Unlike many housemates who have long been forgotten after their five seconds of fame dwindled out, Permithias is hard at work on various projects which will make him a household name for years to come.

What prompted you to go into the BBA house?

I was trying to get out of the ghetto (laughs). I entered the BBA house because I knew I had as much of a chance of winning as anyone else. I wanted to win and I wanted to see those winnings to take care of my mother. I was not hungry for the fame but it was a good opportunity that would have allowed for me to take care of my mom had I won.

What has the experience done for your chef/music career?

As a chef it has benefitted me immensely because I get a lot of corporate gigs where I am asked to promote products for various companies, like I did for Namib Mills. I no longer have to look for gigs now. They come to me because people are aware of the expertise that I offer and they know where to find me. The same goes for music, especially since a lot of people did not know that I could sing, and now they do and have taken notice of me.

What is music to you?

Music to me is everything. It’s is an outlet for me, a form of expressing my emotions, be them good or bad. It helps me deal with certain things that I am going through in my life. I write songs about my life experiences which I go through, which also helps my fans relate to me because we all go through difficult experiences. I pour my emotions into my songs.

The local music industry is cut throat, with most musicians quitting before they hit a five year mark, what makes you think you will last?

90% of most local artists lack the writing element. I don’t need a song writer; I write and play my own music. The moment you do it for the original reason you started doing it in the beginning, you will make it. I do my music for myself, I do music regardless of whether people will like it or not. It might be a week or month or year before I release an album but I will eventually do it and that’s what will make me last.

Do you have a strategy which you will employ to make sure you succeed?

I currently have two singles out (Inhizio and #Am_xa). I have been working on promoting them. I want people to take them in because people often say it’s hard to put the face to the music when they hear my music and see me. When people hear some of my songs they think they are unlike me, but that’s not true. I am versatile and I want them to understand that.

Apart from music, do you have another source of income and do you have a plan b in case music does not work out for you?

My plan b is blurry at the moment. I have been approached for a couple of television cooking shows, I have also been contemplating getting into radio, but nothing is set in stone yet. It’s all very blurry right now.

What is the one thing about you that most people don’t know?

Regardless of the things that I have been fortunate enough to accomplish, I do not look down on the people who are less fortunate then I am. I see them through my own eyes because I have also been there. People expect me to live a glamorous life merely because I was in a reality show. People lie a lot about where they are from, but I don’t want to be that kind of person, I am humble.

Where would you go if you had a time machine?

Recently wrote a song about wanting to see the world like some of the most acclaimed artists of our time like Chris Brown and Neyo. I don’t want to disappear when I am dead or be forgotten in a certain time frame. I would like to travel to a time where I can influence people on a large scale and see the fruits of that influence for a long time.

What do you think your eulogy would say?

I want it to speak truth. I’m a naughty guy so it should say that. I don’t want a nice eulogy, a nice eulogy is not a passport to heaven.

Which song best describes you?

Chris Brown’s “Lucky Me” from his album titled Graffiti.

If you had to be an ice cream flavour, which would it be and why?

Homemade coconut ice cream, coupled with pineapple ice cream. It’s the perfect combination of creamy yet fluffy flavours.

What was the funniest or most embarrassing thing that happened to you recently?

Having to walk over to someone house to take a dump because you ran out of power at your house, which means you have no water for the toilet and you really have to go.

Who is the one person you hate/dislike the most, be it an actual person or a character from a movie or series?

The character named Caesar from the series Spartacus.

Which human trait do you think we could do without?

Selfishness. If we were less selfish there wouldn’t be so much suffering in the world, after all selfishness and greed walk in the same direction.

Do you think donkeys are suicidal?

I grew up near a farm so I actually understand what you are saying on a deeper level (laughs). Yes and no. Yes in that a donkey will walk straight into a tree with you on it knowing that it will hurt it, and no in that it knows the tree will hurt you more that it hurts it.
