A suspect who was charged with one count of culpable homicide read together with provisions of the Domestic Violence Act in 2009, has been acquitted over the death of her domestic partner.
On March 8 in 2009, Liza Garoes stabbed and killed Christiaan Gariseb after the two were involved in a physical altercation.
The woman, who was 28 then, said she and Gariseb got into a fight, which resulted in her victim physically assaulting her.
In the midst of the altercation, she stabbed the deceased, who succumbed to a chest wound.
Although she pleaded guilty to having killed Gariseb, she said it was in self-defence.
During her final appearance, Magistrate Sarel Jacobs found her not guilty on the charge of culpable homicide and set her free.
