War veteran, Mzee Kaukungwa dies at 95

Liberation struggle veteran and Swapo founding member, Simon Hafeni “Mzee” Kaukungwa has died at the age of 95, today.

His death was confirmed by Swapo Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba, saying “With utmost regret we have to confirm that our comrade Kaukungwa has passed away after being admitted at Ongwediva Mediclinic”.

Mzee was born on 6 October at Ohalushu village in Ohangwena region and was the third of 12 children born to Reverend Nghishidubi Nghoshi Sam Noah Kaukungwa ka-Shangheta and Hifikepunye Rebecca.
