Two quart-final matches were played at the Rundu Sports Stadium in that town and at Windhoek’s Sam Nujoma Stadium respectively.
In Rundu, United Stars took on Otjiwarongo’s African Lions and it was the former Namibia Premier League outfit Stars, who went on to reach the semi-finals with a narrow 1-0 victory over Lions at the packed venue.
In the second match at the same venue, Orlando Pirates lost 2-0 against Rundu Chiefs in a reverse fixture in a space of seven days.
Chiefs built on their half-time 1-0 lead, to win 2-0 against the Buccaneers and book their place in the last-four of the prestigious tournament.
This Chiefs’ first time to reach the particular competition’s semis, having had come closer in 2011 were they lost 4-2 in the quarters against eventual winners Eleven Arrows in Otjiwarongo.
At the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Blue Waters and Mighty Gunners faced-off in the first of the double-header
Gunners’ substitute Richard Oarum scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot to give the Otjiwarongo-based club a 1-0 win over the lacklustre coastal giants.
Oarum also picked up the Man of the Match award, pocketing N$2 000 of which half goes to a charity of his choice.
The second and last match on the day saw former NFA Cup winners African Stars and Southern Stream First Division side Hotspurs, also at the same venue.
Korukuve scored the opening goal for Stars, after the Spurs goalkeeper failed to handle a cross send into his penalty box, prompting Korukuve to easily put the ball into the back of the net.
Moments later, just before the break, Korukuve, rather proving to be a difficult customer for the Spurs backline to contain, was again first to reach a well-placed ball into the area from the left, striking it home at the near post past Spurs goalie.
Korukuve also picked up the Man of the Match award.
