14 dead, 8 raped at Easter

at least 14 people lost their lives in the country during the Easter Holiday weekend while seven women were raped, Police have said.
On Saturday, a 64-year old man, Johannes Iilonga, from Onyaanya Village in Okatope was found dead in his cattle kraal and no foul play is suspected.
In the same area, Maria Nghifikwa (47) of Onyati Village was found hanging from a tree in the mahangu field. She did not leave any suicide note and no foul play is suspected.
On Thursday, Mukuve Napemba (80) from west Ndiyona was bumped and killed by a hit and run truck driver along the Trans Kalahari Highway. Napemba was from Shitembo Village. The driver is yet to be arrested.
Simon Martinus (55) died on the spot on Friday when the bakkie he was driving collided head-on with a Zambian-registered truck at Nyodo Village west of Ndiyona along the Rundu-Divindu road.
One of the passengers in the bakkie, Maria Mpingana Iishiki later succumbed to her wounds at Nyangana Hospital.
On Saturday, at Ndonga Linena Village in Ndiyona, Kambiri Annastatsia Kakuhu (44) was found dead in her sleeping room. It is suspected that she ate poisonous spinach called Mubeti.
Three people who were passengers in a Volvo died along the Otjiwarongo-Okahandja main road yesterday when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The dead have been identified as Slint Leonard Madjiedt (34), Patricia Brits (28) and Lovisa Shikongo. The driver escaped with serious injuries and is admitted at Otjiwarongo Hospital.
One person died on the spot last Friday when a minibus burst a tyre and left the road. Of the 13 passengers, eight sustained serious injuries while four had light injuries.
The deceased was identified as Silas Panduleni Kambonde (25).
A 19-year old girl, Desiree Rooinasie was found murdered in her shack along Greenmountain Road, Wanaheda on Saturday morning. The Police say she was also raped by a suspect who entered her room after cutting a hole through the iron zinc. Nobody has been arrested yet.
On Sunday, Ngutjitua Karumendu (19) was run over by a vehicle along the Windhoek-Okahandja road while trying to cross the road.
An unidentified man was bumped and killed by a truck on Sunday in Shanghai Street, Katutura. The man’s body is at the Police mortuary.
A 43-year old man from Ombili location in Mariental, Hardap region was stabbed to death with a knife by his 25-year old girlfriend after an argument.
The suspect was arrested and will appear in court today.
A Kunene boy, David Tapus (8) died on Thursday after he was knocked down by a truck along the Kamanjab-Outjo Road.
Lastly, a 13-year old girl was bumped and died by a vehicle while crossing a road in Walvis Bay.
A 28-year old woman was raped by a 27-year old man behind Oosterheim Junior Secondary School in Aroab, Keetmanshoop on Friday last week. The suspect was arrested and will appear in court today.
In Gobabis, a drunken 20-year old woman was violated by two men aged 21 and 19. The suspects broke into her room and raped her while she was asleep. They were arrested are expected to appear in court today.
Two minors aged seven years were raped by a man who lured them into his flat. The girls were medically observed and found to have bruises on their private parts. The man will appear in court today.
An unidentified 23-year old man from Aranos, Mariental, will appear in court for raping a woman at Nuwerus location on Friday.
An Omaruru 21-year old woman was raped at Hakahana location on Friday and her attacker was arrested.
