the MTC’s Namibia Annual Music Awards (Nama) are around the corner: artists, producers, managers and fans are looking forward to this event as their star singers have begun to enter their material for possible nomination.
Like in any awards, judges hold the key and over the years, the awards nearly lost their touch because of questionable decisions.
This led to either artist withdrawals or loss of trust on the eventual winners. Last week, MTC released a list of judges as well as a steering committee for the awards.
Artists have till 25th January to enter, with albums released between 1st December 2011 to 30th November 2012 and reigning artist of the year has revealed he will enter in three categories this week.
Otilia Mungoba,Dr Kagiso Moloi, Ngidipo Nangolo, Mario Locke, Joel Haikali, Corrie Du Plessis, Wojtek Majweski, Sandra Williams, Axali Doeseb, Peter HoaKhaob and Natanael Ipinge make up the a panel of 11 judges all with experience in the music industry.
John Max Eino (NASCAM), Knowledge Iipinge (Mshasho Records), Maria Immanuel (Rocka’s Investments), Josef Gabriel (Ndilimani), George Simaata (Supreme Records & New Makes Media Group), Abel Kandjii (Upambians), Gebhardt Makono (Ongoronomundu), Arrafat, Tafanj (Radio Energy), Dennis Eiseb, DJ Cheeze (061 Music), Naomi Nekwaya (Izinyoka), Kelly Antonio (Dealdone Records), Solani Glo Zulu (Omalaeti) and Alex (Yaziza Entertainment) now make up the steering committee.
Sally: I don’t really know the new panel, but maybe things should be fairer. The event should go down well; I expect it to be bigger and better.
S-Man: ok, it is 2013 I expect a bigger and better event. This is my first time to enter; it will be exciting and successful. Most artists worked hard for that moment.
Mushe: I trust the NAMA’s as far as they started; I have never seen anything wrong. I expect the same; I’ll enter for Best Afro pop, Best single and Best collaboration.
Fishman: Any other artist would want fairness, I do not want to talk about last year but I’m expecting new resolutions and expecting improved things.
