Soldier fatally shoots girlfriend …escapes scene before surrendering self to police
A 39-year-old Namibia Defense Forces (NDF) soldier fatally shot and murdered his girlfriend at a residence in Damara location along Michael Angelo street yesterday.
Police confirmed that the soldier, whose name has been withheld, shot Zya Juliet Shane Rittmann aged 25 years who happens to be the mother of his three-year-old child, with a 9mm Makarov pistol in the head due to undisclosed relationship problems.
The suspect, whom the police confirmed to be stationed at Osona military base later surrendered himself to the Katutura Police after the gruesome incident.
The police reported that the soldier was in possession of the firearm and ammunition without a license.
The deceased’s next of kin have already been informed and chief inspector Kauna Shikwambi said investigations are under way.
Sheriff Sean Naude also confirmed the incident to The Villager yesterday while on the scene, “There was a guy who shot his girlfriend dead in Katutura, she was shot in the head and he escaped with a black vehicle. It seems like he was arguing with her before shooting her in the head and fled the scene. We arrived on the scene with the Nampol officials. He is a member of the NDF. It’s a passion killing.”
