The sixth of October will see radio funny man Azeal “Cheeze” Matsoarelle become the third roast victim of Free Your Mind Namibia. Metro spoke to the vibrant radio personality to discuss his recent weight loss, dream dates with Erica Mena and living it up in Bali.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read a lot and I like to watch Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet and Food Network a lot!
Why did you agree to the FYM Roast?
I agreed to it because I have roasted people on radio for the last 10 years and I thought it would be a great opportunity for some to get back at me and I am all about growing and supporting the local comedy scene as I myself am a closet stand-up comedian.
What made you decide to join the radio industry?
It was pure luck and destiny!
What has been one of your most embarrassing moments?
There are too many to mention. I am naturally carefree; impulsive and sometimes stupidly brave. So you can imagine the things I have gotten myself into.
What is your favourite colour?
Black and Blue
What is the worst gift you have ever received?
A no-name golf shirt OMW!! I was so hurt, nogal on my birthday!!
From the towns you have been to thus far, which was your favourite and why?
Bali in Indonesia, come on its Bali. Paradise on earth for any party animal!
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
The ultimate goal is to own my own radio station one day.
Who is your dream date and why?
Eish, Pearl Thusi or Erica Mena, they are both just my type. Business orientated and pretty as hell!!
If you had the chance to do anything besides radio and hosting what would you do and why?
I would be a human rights lawyer or politician.
What special talent do you have that people don’t know about?
I can cook up a storm, especially roasting or grilling is my specialty. I am a closet foodie!
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
I am a dog person
What is your favourite meal?
Anything with surf and turf love me some pap and braai meat and I am a sucker for sushi.
Describe your perfect weekend?
A potjie a braai, camping chairs, whiskey and good friends next to a swimming pool.
Who is the one person that you’ve met that has given you a different prospective on life?
My mentor Mr. Norman Kotze and my childhood buddies “The Cartel”. They know who they are.
What inspired your recent decision to lose weight?
The birth of my son. I thought of him growing up and wanting to kick a soccer ball around and I didn’t want to be that dad who sits on the side lines watching his son run aroundm, plus I had a serious case of sleep apnea. So it was a conscious health decisions as well.
