Vallieres completed the 164km course in 4:34:48. Niamh Fisher-Black from New Zealand finished 2nd, with Spain’s Margarita Victoria Garcia claiming the bronze medal in Kigali, Rwanda.
Vallieres took the lead at the bottom of the final climb. Her pre-race altitude camp prepared her for the final attack and storm to a historic gold medal.
