Senior Traditional Councillor Herman !Naruseb of the Dâure-Daman Traditional Authority has expressed that as the Daures GH2 Project transitions from the pilot phase into the next phase of development, renegotiation on equity must take place.
“It is important that we revisit and, where necessary, renegotiate existing agreements to ensure they remain fair, transparent, and beneficial to all stakeholders,” he said.
He shared his views during the CIF Industry Decarbonisation Programme stakeholder engagement meeting held in Walvis Bay on 21–22 April 2026.
!Naruseb noted that his community strongly believes that development initiatives, particularly in the green hydrogen sector, must bring inclusive and equitable benefits to the community.
“We want our community members to actively participate and be part and parcel of these projects,” he stated.
He added that they are encouraged by the fact that the Dâure-Daman community holds shares in the green hydrogen initiative and a constructive working relationship has been established with the implementing company.
Furthermore, he also highlighted that there is a need to strengthen public awareness.
According to the traditional authority’s observation, much of the current communication is shared through social media platforms, which are not accessible to everyone in the community.
“We therefore call for greater use of accessible channels such as radio and community engagements to ensure that all citizens understand what green hydrogen is and how it will impact their lives,” said !Naruseb.
He added that the traditional authority’s aspiration is clear: “We want our people to be informed, empowered, and fully included in shaping a future that rightfully belongs to them.”
