Incumbent Swapo Party Youth League Secretary Ephraim Nekongo said that his endorsement by the wing’s central committee on Saturday as a candidate for the SPYL Secretary’s position is not a victory.
He said true victory would only showcase at the congress slated for August this year.
His deputy, Christine Haindaka-Sikongo, was also endorsed as the sole candidate for the position of SPYL Deputy Secretary.
“We cannot really describe it as a victory. We are preparing for congress so that people will vote,” he said.
SPYL hosted its 4th Ordinary Central Committee meeting on Saturday, which party President Hage Geingob officially opened.
“Comrade President has decided to address the SPYL CC official opening. As Swapo party Youth League, we send our deepest and sincere condolences to the Head of State and his family.”
This comes after President Geingob’s aunt and the last matriarch of the Geingob family, Ousie Hendrina Geingos, died on 28 April 2022.
“Swapo Party Youth League would like to prove the unshaken unity amongst its members within the SWAPO Party structures and its rank and file. SPYL is anticipating to embark on a fruitful journey to its congress that would discuss bread and butter issues and make resolutions that will assist the transmitting belt in advocating for youth employment, good governance and directing social-economic development in the country,” a statement by Gerson Dumeni, SPYL information Secretary said.
