The Ministry of Mines and Energy is requesting all licenced retailers and wholesaler traders to furnish it with their fuel consumption data from January 2021 to the end of this month.
The main reason for the request is to understand how much volumes were imported and consumed during a particular year.
The mines ministry spokesperson Andreas Simon confirmed the public notice issued by the ministry last week.
He said it is a licence condition for licence and certificate holders to submit such information to the regulator (minister) annually.
Simon explained that the request is to sum up petroleum products consumption(s) from January 2021 to February the following year.
The data will also assist the country in understanding whether the country mostly consumes diesel or petrol.
Moreover, it will provide disaggregated data on what has been consumed locally and how much of it was in transit to be sold and consumed in neighbouring countries.
He added that various stakeholders also need the fuel data. The National Statistics Agency, Universities/Academic Institutions, researchers, private individuals, etc., require such data from the ministry. “So, we ought to have it on hand when it is asked for,” wrote Simon.
The information requested can be the company’s total throughput, depot functionality, and other relevant information stipulated by the Petroleum Products Regulations.
Simon highlighted that the required entities must provide the requested information before the 28th of this month.
Non- compliance from the licensed companies or those with certificates with the directive may result in their license or certificate being cancelled or suspended for a period to be determined by the minister.
November and December last year, the country imported petroleum oils worth N$866 million and N$701 million- the second most imported product after copper blisters.
